The women of Guyana call upon wisdom as we join with them in rejoicing in God=s inhabited world.  We are reminded that wisdom assures us that God takes delight in humanity and that we must be open to receiving the new understanding that wisdom provides.  Let us begin with Guyana.

Guyana, the Aland of many waters,@ is located on the tip of South America on the Atlantic Ocean, nestled between Venezuela, Surinam and Brazil.  Lakes, streams and mighty rivers intersect this land of lush rainforests and spectacular flora and fauna.  Guyana=s mighty and majestic Kaieteur Falls inspired the art for WDP 2008.  Although geographically located on the South American continent, Guyana is culturally more closely linked to its Caribbean neighbors.

Are there opportunities for the >abundant life= and the wisdom that assures us that God takes delight in humanity?  Let us be open to receiving the new opportunities that wisdom providss as we worship with the WDP women of Guyana.

About the Art

Guyana is a land of many contrasts and surprises.  The art chosen for WPD USA 2008 reflects this richness of Guyana, the Land of Six Peoples and many waters.  A collaborative effort by four artists, the mixed media collage lifts up the uniqueness of the world-renowned Kaietur waterfall while capturing the complexity of Guyana=s cultural heritage through the faces of Guyanese women.

Please join in worship, reflection and celebration!

We Shall Gather at the River

The Ecumenical Women=s Gathering, sponsored by Church Women United will be a unique opportunity to see fulfilled a powerful expectation written in II Timothy 3:14.  The writer of this letter states that AAll scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness...@  The letter continues with the purpose for scripture, inspired by God: A...so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

This is one of the goals of the 2008 Gathering in Independence, Missouri.  During the four days of the event, we will gather near the Missouri River, which flows through nearby Kansas City, to become better equipped to do the Agood works@ God has set out for us.  Our task during this time is to learn every skill and pick up any strategies we can to return to our churches, denominational entities and communities to fulfill our personal missions there.

So, come gather with us.  Send in your Registrations and your Hotel/Motel accommodations reservations and plan to be in Independence, Missouri, next June 19-22 being EQUIPPED for your personal mission.

Scholarship Money Available for Students of Color

If you know anyone that could use this, please pass this along.  Mark Robbins, Dean of Syracuse University's School of Architecture is desperately seeking young men and women of color interested in pursuing a five year professional degree in Architecture.  He says he's deeply committed to bringing diversity to his field and has scholarship money set aside to fully cover education costs for 10 students.  He says that Hispanic enrollment in the school has increased substantially, but it's harder to attract African Americans.

Syracuse University 's School of Architecture has a great reputation and this seems like a terrific opportunity, so please pass this on to everyone you know: contract: Mark Robbins, Dean School of Architecture, 315-443-2255, robbinsm@syr.edu <mailto:robbinsm@syr.edu>
