Place: Aldersgate United Methodist Church - 4115 Dewey Avenue

Theme: "Jesus, Children & Beyond the 3 R's"

Registration fee: $3.00 per person

EIA 2008 Irene Ingram This meeting will be held at Aldersgate UMC, 4115 Dewey Avenue. We will close with a "Brown Bag Lunch." Beverage and dessert will be provided.

May Friendship Day/EIA Initiative - Education, Insight, Action

Come Join us for an Evening of Fellowship and Fine Dinning! Friday, May 2, 2008 starting at 5:30 pm, at 12 Corners Presbyterian Church, located at 1200 South Winton Road.

This year's May Friendship Day celebration will serve as the opening prayer to our second 2008 EIA Initiative Meeting. There will be a Live Performance by the Glimpse of Heaven, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Children's Choir, Directed by Donnell Johnson. Following the Worship Service we will discuss our Part II EIA (Insight).


Dinner is $7.00 per person. Our Dinner Menu for the evening is as follows:

  • Tomato Bisque or French Onion Soup.
  • Tossed Salad
  • Pinwheel Sandwiches: Ham, Chicken Salad and Tune
  • Lemon Meringue Pie
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Punch

Women at June 07 Brighton Town Park, located at 777 Westfalls Road, is the site for our Annual CWU Picnic and "White Elephant" Auction. Our Auctioneer will be none other than Rev. Sue Forsyth. Bring: Auction Items and Your Own Place Setting for Lunch!! We'll provide Lunch [Vegetable Casserole, Salad, Dessert, and Beverages]. We ask that You make your Reservations EARLY, since the lodge can only 65 people. To RSVP please call Joan at 342-2790 no later May 28, 2008.

CWU will hold its 2nd Annual Yard Sale at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 141 Adams Street, during the Corn Hil Festival.

If you would like to donate items to our Yard Sale, please drop them off at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on Friday, July 11, 2008 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm; please ask for Mary Ann

The actual Yard Sale will take place on Saturday, July 12 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and again on Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

CWU Family Fun at the Red Wings - Friday, August 8


SAVE THE DATE: Come join us for a night of sport's fun, fireworks and fellowship.

Tickets are $6.00 per person. The Rochester Red Wings will face off against the Indianapolis Indians in their quest for the Championship. The game will start at 7:00 pm and will concluded with a fantastic fireworks display.

To Purchase Tickets: Please send a self-addressed stamped envelope with a check or money order made out to Church Women United to the CWU office.

October Day of Reflection

Save the date! Friday, October 7, 2008 at 9:30am
Theme: "The Anthony Ticket: From Wilderness to Promised Land"

Presenter: Rev. Deborah L. Hughes, Executive Director, The Susan B. Anthony House

Place: Hosted at Greece Baptist Church, located at 1230 Long Pond Road.

Our current historical election year and this year's 88th Anniversary of the Women's Voting Rights Act provides us with an excellent backdrop for the 2008 Day of Reflection Celebration. With this in mind, please join us as we are lead in a biblical and political reflection, by Rev. Deborah L. Hughes.

Come celebrate with us and be renewed. Bring your fiends and a brown bag lunch. The registration fee is only $3.00 per person. As an added treat, there will be an opportunity to tour the Susan B. Anthony House after lunch, at the special entrance price of $5.00 per person, for all those who are interested.

First Congregational UCC will be our gracious hosts. This is will be a "Brown Bag" luncheon meeting and will look at the struggles in our own lives, and reflect on how we are called to minister to others, especially those in prison.

As an act of reaching out, participants are encouraged to bring items for the Women's Health Kit Project, a Prison Outreach of CWU, which is distributed to women at Monroe County Correctional Facility. For a list of items, please contact CWU at (585) 342-2790. So bring your "Brown Bag" Lunch and your friends for a life changing experience.


Note: As a part of our Annual Food Drive to support the Community Food Cupboard of Rochester, Inc. we ask participants to please bring non-perishable food items to this event.

Advent Celebration/Annual Meeting and Human Rights Day

Theme: "Come Lord Jesus!"

Bible Study Instructor: Dr. Gail Ricciuti, Associate Professor of Homiletics at Colgate Rochester Cozier Divinity School"

Registration fee:$3.00 per person.

Advent 2007Ogden Presbyterian Church, located at 2400 South Union Street in Spencerport, will be our gracious hosts for this spirit filled celebration and annual meeting. This glorious celebration of hope will provide much need food for the soul and renewal for the spirit. So bring your "brown bag" lunch and a few good friends and join CWU for a wonderful time of fellowship and song, certain to chase away your winter-time blues.

Please Note: During this Celebration, the CWU Office will collect cash donations and/or diapers as a part of our Dollar$ for Diaper$ Project. Donations from this CWU Project go to benefit Sanctuary House, a local emergency shelter for women and children.

Theme: "School to Prison Pipeline"

Panelist: Jean-Claude Brizard, Superintendent of Schools, RCSD

2008 marks the 60th birthday of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, an event Co-Sponsored by Church Women United in Rochester and various community-based groups. In honor of this monumental milestone, this year's theme is "Dignity and Justice for All of Us."
