During this year=s celebration we will feature a Live
Performance by: Glimpse of Heaven, the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church
Children=s
Choir, directed by Donnell Johnson.
From the President
The World Day of Prayer service, held
March 7th, was a marvelous beginning for CWU=s 2008 programs. The entire day was truly a coming together in
the presence of the Lord. We were
immersed in
stimulating Bible Study and fellowship. After lunch, we experienced God=s power through song, prayer, and an
inspiring message. Our appreciation and
thanks to Mary Discher and committee members of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for a
job well done.
As we begin the 2008 EIA
celebrations, we are grateful to all committee members and chairs for their
dedicated service and careful planning which has been exhibited in making these
celebrations a success. We invite you to
join us in participating in these celebrations, as we explore and motivate
children to succeed in life. Our leaders of tomorrow! BAudrey Davidson
World Day of Prayer 2008
Report
The March 7th 2008 Church Women United celebration of World Day of Prayer 2008 was held at
Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. The program began at 10:30 and included morning Bible studies of scriptures which were to be used in the afternoon worship service.
The Rev. Sue Forsyth [former CWU President] led a study of Job 28 and the Rev. Patrina Freeman [CWU Executive Director] led a study of Luke 10. After a brown-bag lunch with beverages and desserts prepared by the women of Mt. Olivet, we gathered in the church sanctuary for the Worship Service.
This year=s service was prepared by the World Day of Prayer Committee of Guyana. Leaders of the service were Esther Hammer, Sadie Hill, Ellen Kimbrough and Eleanor Pope. The Church Women United Choir presented two anthems and led the singing of hymns. Our speaker was Princess Raffell Conteh, a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. She spoke of the concerns and struggles of women in developing countries and the need for humanitarian aid. Over 70 women attended the day=s activities.

Threshold Choir Forming
A Threshold Choir is an all-women=s choir which honors the ancient tradition of singing at the bedsides of people who are struggling: some with living, some with dying. The voice, as a human instrument, is a true and gracious vehicle for sharing compassion and comfort. The choir provides an opportunity for women to share the sacred gifts of their voices at life=s thresholds.
Members of the choir visit the bedside in small groups of 3 or 4 and families and caregivers are invited to participate. Songs include rounds, chants, lullabies, hymns, spirituals, and other choral music. The Choir meets monthly for rehearsals.
OUR FIRST MEETING in the Rochester area will be held on SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2009, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm at Asbury First United Methodist Church in Wesley Hall, 1050 East Avenue.

Join the Blanket Project
The Monroe County Fair Association's Home Arts Department is
looking for crafty people to help with a community service initiative called
Blanket Project. Senior centers, community groups, schools and individuals are
encouraged to make lap throws and blankets for people in nursing homes,
receiving in-home care and on dialysis. The throws will be collected during the
third week of June, just before the county fair, where all the blankets will be
displayed. They will be given to Unity Health System to be distributed on the
last day of the fair on July 13. People
who are immobile for long periods often need a light cover to keep their legs
warm, especially during winter or in air-conditioned settings, the association
says. Last year, more than 5,000
hand-knitted and crocheted caps were collected by the association for people
undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. For more information, call the fair office
at (585) 334-4000.
